Coding with CS First – Characterization

This week, my college students will placed on their programming hats and have just a little enjoyable coding in Scratch. They are going to be choosing a personality from a narrative we now have learn, equivalent to Les lunettes de Lucette and Alain et Denis font du tenting, and finishing the Characterization mini unit in CS First. (Sadly, this mini unit is at the moment solely accessible in English and Spanish however we are going to finally transfer on to the longer Storytelling unit which is disponible en français! On the very least, college students can change the language in Scratch to French.) The duty might be barely completely different from that which is printed within the CS First unit however the ideas demonstrated within the movies and add-ons might be fairly helpful. The duty includes selecting a personality from the story and discovering a sprite that resembles the character. I’ll present them the best way to edit the sprite to look just a little extra just like the precise character, equivalent to altering the hair color, for instance. College students will then add speech bubbles, thought bubbles and motion, in addition to audio recordings to accompany the speech bubbles. Right here is an instance I shortly threw collectively, that includes Pierrette le chat from Les lunettes de Lucette:

Following this exercise, college students will start to work on the Storytelling unit to code their very own story or chapter about what occurs subsequent within the ebook they’ve learn.

When you’ve got tried both of those items together with your college students, I’d love to listen to the way it went. Remark beneath with any insights and suggestions, s’il vous plaît et merci! 😃
